Gold Filigree Angel Ring, by Angel Jewellery.
I have 2 designs of Angel ring now, each quite unique and beautiful in its own way. The gold filigree Angel ring is my favourite though, and the idea has taken a long time to bring to fruition, in fact the idea developed over several years. I wanted to make an angel ring with filigree wings, and for this I had to learn all about the ancient art of filigree.
This exquisite, lacy metal technique can be traced back 5000 years. Its tradition is represented in many cultures, from Asian and Greek, to Phoenician, Yemenite, Turkish, Norwegian and Russian. Filigree work is totally hand-crafted and requires great skill and hours of concentration. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful of art forms developed by man. The name Filigree comes from the Latin “Filum” (thread), and “Granum” (seed or grain). It is a delicate kind of jewellery metalwork, usually of gold or silver, made with tiny beads or twisted threads, or both in combination, which are wound into spirals then soldered together and arranged in artistic motifs. It looks like delicate and intricate lacework, and seems to me a perfect way to represent the wings of an Angel. I make the ring in sterling silver, then cover it with 3 micro. of 22 ct. gold. The result is magnificent!
